Kotarou Azumi is an introspective middle school boy who aspires to become a traditional novelist, frequently reciting quotes from modern author Osamu Dazai. Akane Mizuno is a dedicated track and field sprinter who nervously squeezes a stuffed mascot to calm her social anxiety. Placed in the same homeroom class for their third year of middle school, the quiet pair is assigned to the sports festival equipment committee. Communicating primarily through tentative late-night LINE smartphone messages, Kotarou and Akane slowly bridge the emotional distance between them, discovering the clumsy, bittersweet magic of their first romantic relationship.

I already knew that I had a problem with those sort of shows where people just gaze meaningfully at each other. We're not QUITE that bad here, but still this show's drama seems to have a fairly weak heartbeat, though finally discovering some pathos near the end.
