Story

Synopsis

Trapped beneath a dark underground expanse for as long as he can remember, young Bam knew only the company of Rachel, the girl who taught him language and warmth. When Rachel leaves him to climb the mythical Tower, promising that those who reach the summit will obtain anything they desire, Bam refuses to be left behind. Opening the Tower's gates through sheer willpower as an unsanctioned Irregular, he enters a lethal gauntlet of physical trials and psychological tests. Guided by the Black March sword and strange allies, Bam must survive cutthroat betrayals while climbing each perilous floor.

Produced by Telecom Animation Film in partnership with WEBTOON and Crunchyroll, this dark fantasy anime was directed by Takashi Sano. Adapted from SIU's legendary South Korean web manhwa, the thirteen-episode inaugural season aired in spring 2020. The production garnered global acclaim for its distinct graphic line art, haunting orchestral score composed by Kevin Penkin, and thrilling tactical trials. Its worldwide streaming success marked a milestone for manhwa adaptations, launching a second television season in 2024.
