Synopsis

In a vibrant world where the taste and rarity of food dictate global power and culinary obsession, Toriko is a legendary Gourmet Hunter possessing immense physical strength and acute sensory perception. Hired by high-end restaurants and wealthy gourmands to track down savage monsters and elusive delicacies in dangerous untamed lands, Toriko aims to assemble his personal dream full-course menu. Joined by ambitious five-star chef Komatsu, who seeks culinary inspiration and deeper culinary knowledge, Toriko travels through treacherous environments, battling fearsome creatures and rival organizations seeking complete control over the world's most divine flavors.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Animated by Toei Animation and directed by Akifumi Zako, *Toriko* adapts the action-packed gourmet adventure manga created by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. Premiering on Fuji TV in April 2011, the 147-episode television series shared a morning broadcast block with other prominent Shonen Jump adaptations, frequently crossing over with franchises like One Piece and Dragon Ball Z. The production featured robust orchestral compositions from Hiromi Mizutani. While toning down graphic violence from the source material for Sunday morning audiences, the show retained the manga's imaginative ecology and lavish culinary spectacles.
