Story

Synopsis

While taking a quiet stroll through mountain woods following family quarrels, Tenchi Masaki is pulled into an alternate dimensional anomaly. Six months later, with family members frantically searching the cosmos, alien princesses Ryoko and Ayeka track Tenchi energy signature to modern Tokyo. To their heartbreak, they discover Tenchi living an ordinary adult life with no memories of his magical past, happily cohabiting with an enigmatic artist named Haruna. Ryoko and Ayeka must confront their deepest unexpressed feelings to rescue Tenchi before the artificial pocket dimension consumes his soul entirely.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Released theatrically in April 1999 as the third and final feature film in the *Tenchi Muyo!* cinematic trilogy, this mature romance drama was directed by Hiroshi Negishi and animated by AIC. Taking a stark departure from the slapstick harem humor of previous entries, the production adopted realistic urban aesthetics, subdued lighting, and introspective romantic melancholy. It resolves the long-standing romantic triangle between Tenchi, Ryoko, and Ayeka, providing an emotional and definitive conclusion to the alternate movie continuity.
