Synopsis
Reuniting explosive young sorceress Lina Inverse with her boisterous rival Naga the Serpent, this three-part prequel OVA features the chaotic duo taking on odd mercenary jobs across rural fantasy provinces. Whether hired as personal bodyguards for an obnoxious noble daughter, caught in a ridiculous culinary turf war between competing noodle chiefs, or investigating an eccentric haunted mansion, Lina and Naga resolve every crisis with magical overkill. As rival bandit groups, mythical beasts, and exasperated village elders flee in terror from their catastrophic spells, the heroines leave hilarious devastation in their wake.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Released as a three-episode original video animation series between October 1998 and March 1999, *Slayers Excellent* was produced by J.C.Staff and directed by Hiroshi Watanabe. Adapting further comedic short stories from Hajime Kanzaka *Slayers Special* light novel spinoffs, the production highlights the legendary chemistry between voice actresses Megumi Hayashibara and Maria Kawamura. Fans celebrated the OVA for its fluid comedic animation, brilliant slapstick dialogue, and nostalgic return to Lina and Naga carefree early adventuring days.
