Synopsis
Set during the early adventuring days of Lina Inverse before she met swordsman Gourry, this three-episode original video animation collection pairs the ambitious sorceress with her self-proclaimed rival Naga the Serpent. Wandering from kingdom to kingdom in search of quick gold and exotic spells, the mismatched pair constantly bickers over magical contracts and bounties. From escorting a cowardly magical golem creator to battling an evil cult seeking an ancient chimera grimoire, Lina and Naga resolve disputes using overwhelming magical destruction and trademark slapstick rivalry.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Produced by animation studio J.C.Staff in collaboration with Hal Film Maker, *Slayers Specials* was released as a three-volume original video animation between July 1996 and May 1997. Directed by Hiroshi Watanabe, the series adapts side stories from Hajime Kanzaka light novel series *Slayers Special*. Featuring the iconic vocal dynamic between Megumi Hayashibara and Maria Kawamura, the OVA proved widely popular for its comedic slapstick duels, high-energy spellcasting visuals, and memorable orchestral score composed by Takayuki Hattori.
