Story

Synopsis

In an ancient forest sanctuary, gentle mythical guardian Celebi is hunted by a merciless poacher, fleeing through time alongside young artist Sam forty years into the future. Materializing in contemporary Arborville, the exhausted travelers encounter Satoshi, Pikachu, and companions, who nurse the wounded mythical guardian back to health. However, ruthless Team Rocket executive the Iron-Masked Marauder arrives armed with Dark Balls that corrupt captured creatures into mindless weapons. Corrupting Celebi into a colossal destructive wooden leviathan, the villain threatens the entire forest ecosystem until Suicune aids the heroes.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and produced by OLM, this fourth *Pokemon* theatrical outing premiered across Japan in July 2001. Notable for bridging franchise history, the film reveals that the young artist Sam is actually a youthful Professor Oak, creating a touching narrative time-loop connection with Satoshi. Blending lush environmental forestry with digital nature modeling, the movie reinforces the series enduring ecological conservation themes while showcasing the majesty of legendary Johto beasts Celebi and Suicune.
