Story

Synopsis

A century-long conflict rages between the scientifically advanced Heavenly Empire and the Nebulis Sovereignty, a sanctuary for astral mages. Iska, the Empire's youngest master swordsman ever awarded the rank of Saint Disciple, desires peace above all else. During a fierce territorial clash, he duels Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX, the Sovereignty's formidable Ice Calamity Witch. Although standing on opposing battle lines as sworn enemies, their encounter sparks deep intellectual respect and covert artistic kinship. Secret encounters in neutral border cities force both idealists to question the nationalist propaganda of their homelands as political conspiracies conspire to destroy them.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Kei Sazane's light novel series illustrated by Ao Nekonabe, this romantic science fantasy anime was produced by SILVER LINK. Co-directed by Shin Oonuma and Mirai Minato with series composition by Kento Shimoyama, the twelve-episode broadcast premiered in October 2020. The production combined vibrant sci-fi urban vistas against ornate baroque sorcery aesthetics, scoring strong viewership worldwide on Crunchyroll and Funimation. Its commercial performance led to sequels expanding the sweeping saga of Iska and Alice.
