Story
Synopsis
Retelling the emotional sci-fi romance of Orange from the selfless perspective of Hiroto Suwa, this theatrical feature expands the story beyond the original television series. In a parallel future timeline where Kakeru Naruse committed suicide, an adult Suwa is married to Naho Takamiya with a child, but carries profound regret over Kakeru's death. When the friend group writes letters to their past high school selves, Suwa sends guidance to his sixteen-year-old self, deliberately sacrificing his own romantic prospects with Naho so that Kakeru can be saved from depression and emotional isolation.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Teenage Suwa receives his future letter, learning that encouraging Naho and Kakeru to date will prevent Kakeru from throwing himself in front of a truck. Suppressing his personal romantic feelings for Naho, Suwa buys the Valentine's chocolates for Kakeru, provides a shoulder for him to cry on, and convinces the friends to run beside Kakeru during the relay race. On the fateful night of February fifteenth, Suwa and the group intercept Kakeru on the highway, embracing him and saving his life, creating an alternate timeline where Kakeru and Naho live happily together.
