In the year 2099, humanity has successfully established colonized habitats throughout the Solar System, propelled by technological leaps in deep-space navigation. The maiden voyage of the photon-powered sailing cruiser Starlight aims to explore beyond known interstellar frontiers. While navigating through remote asteroid belts, the crew rescues Sara, an amnesiac young woman adrift inside a battered alien spacecraft wreckage. Uncovering cryptic navigational coordinates pointing toward the Canopus star cluster, the crew rebels against conservative terrestrial command directives, charting an unauthorized odyssey to discover the legendary paradise planet Odin, the supposed cosmic cradle of humanoid evolution.

Directed by Eiichi Yamamoto and Toshio Masuda with production supervised by *Space Battleship Yamato* creator Yoshinobu Nishizaki, this 1985 lavish space opera was animated by Toei Animation. Featuring a massive budget, elaborate mechanized model work, and hard rock soundtrack contributions from Japanese metal band Loudness, the production sought to reignite Yamato-era cinematic fervor. Although its lengthy two-hour runtime drew criticism, the feature is historically recognized for its gorgeous cel animation, cosmic scope, and classical interstellar naval grandeur.
There are many things with better plot, more depth, better voices, and better, more believable characters than this ... like CardCaptors for instance. Odin is THAT bad.)
