Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Iku Suzuki in 1993, this ambitious sci-fi feature was based on a concept by Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji. Set against a gritty cyberpunk colony backdrop, the film addresses environmental exploitation, resource scarcity, and militarized indoctrination of youth. Featuring dynamic hand-drawn mecha animation and evocative electronic synthesizer scoring, the production remains a noteworthy cult curio illustrating early nineties Japanese science fiction concerns regarding planetary survival and ecological renewal.
