Synopsis

In a post-apocalyptic future, a mysterious viral pandemic transforms human beings into cute domestic cats through direct physical contact. Because snuggling or petting infected felines triggers immediate feline transformation, the surviving human population faces psychological torment resisting irresistible feline cuteness. Armed martial artist Kunagi, an amnesiac survivor who possesses encyclopedic knowledge of cat breeds, leads a band of desperate survivors through ruined city streets. Resisting the overwhelming urge to pet furry invaders, Kunagi uses martial evasion techniques to preserve humanity while surrounded by purring apocalypse.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Based on the post-apocalyptic comedy horror manga written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots, *Nyaight of the Living Cat* was serialized in Comic Garden before receiving this animated television adaptation by studio OLM. Directed by Katsuhito Akiyama, the series parodies zombie survival cinema tropes by replacing brain-eating ghouls with dangerously cute kitties. The production features intense cinematic tension, dramatic orchestral scoring, and detailed feline animations, offering audiences a hilarious and suspenseful subversion of horror tropes.
