Synopsis
Gakuro Yajima has been able to see spirits since childhood, and all he wants from high school is a quiet life far away from them. That plan falls apart when he wanders into a sealed room at school and meets Nue, a powerful and playful spirit who has been locked away inside.
Nue offers to lend him her power in exchange for his help defeating the evil spirits that roam the school grounds. Gakuro is reluctant, but the spirits will not wait for him to make up his mind, and he is soon pulled into a world of exorcists who do not trust Nue and spirits that want her power for themselves.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Nue's Exorcist (Nue no Onmyouji) is a supernatural school action series based on the manga written and illustrated by Kota Kawae. It began in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2023 and grew out of Kawae's 2022 one-shot Nue's House. The manga has reached 16 collected volumes in Japan, and VIZ Media and MANGA Plus publish it in English. It ranked first in AnimeJapan 2025's "Manga We Want to See Animated" fan poll.
The TV anime was announced on October 12, 2026, for a Summer 2027 premiere. Studio Hibari is producing it, with Hiroyuki Hashimoto directing, Hiroshi Seko handling series composition, Shunpei Mochizuki designing the characters, Takayuki Yamaguchi as sound director and MONACA composing the music. The announced main cast is Kaito Miura as Gakuro Yajima, Saori Onishi as Nue and Sayumi Suzushiro as Kazusa Suo. A teaser trailer and visual have been released. The broadcast network and streaming partners have not yet been announced.
