Story

Synopsis

During a high-profile party, Arsene Lupin III is shot and wounded by an assassin wielding a distinctive silver Walther P38, the exact model stolen from Lupin years earlier. Determined to track down his former weapon and confront his unresolved past, Lupin infiltrates the isolated island stronghold of Tarantula, an elite global syndicate of cold-blooded contract killers. Trapped on the island by a lethal poison gas barrier, Lupin allies with Ellen, a disillusioned assassin yearning for freedom. Alongside Jigen and Goemon, Lupin fights to destroy the syndicate and liberate the captives.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Broadcast in August 1997 on Nippon TV, *Lupin III: Island of Assassins* was produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and directed by Hiroyuki Yano. Widely regarded by fans and critics as one of the darkest, most compelling television specials in the entire franchise, the film explores Lupin tragic underworld history and moral complexity. Featuring fluid, visceral action sequences, atmospheric lighting, and a tense musical score by Yuji Ohno, the special won enduring acclaim for its hard-boiled storytelling.
