Story

Synopsis

Midori Asakusa is an imaginative high school girl whose sketchbook overflows with fantastical environmental concepts and mechanical designs. Despite her immense artistic passion, she is terrified of taking the first step alone. She bonds with Sayaka Kanamori, a towering, pragmatic classmate obsessed with finances and logistics, and Tsubame Mizusaki, a charismatic teenage fashion model who secretly longs to become an animator. Bypassing school regulations by establishing the Eizouken video production club, the trio unites their talents. Blending realistic creative discipline with boundless visual imagination, they transform everyday mundane school grounds into breathtaking animated worlds.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Science SARU produced this widely acclaimed twelve-episode television anime series, which broadcast in winter 2020. Directed by visionary auteur Masaaki Yuasa, the anime adapts Sumito Oowara's manga. The production received global critical acclaim, named by *The New York Times* as one of the best international television shows of 2020. Featuring cheeerful opening track Easy Breezy by chelmico, the anime served as an exhilarating love letter to the medium of animation itself. By visualizing the girls' creative brainstorming through loose, watercolor concept sketches coming to life, the show captured the raw, tactile joy of independent art.
