In 1937, on the eve of World War II, Imperial Japanese Army Lieutenant Colonel Yuki establishes the D Agency, an independent espionage training academy that defies traditional military dogmas. Rejecting suicide before capture and reckless violence, Yuki trains civilian polyglots to master psychological disguise, codebreaking, and invisible covert tradecraft. Deployed under diverse aliases across Yokohama, London, Berlin, and Shanghai, the operatives infiltrate foreign governments and colonial outposts. Outwitting rival counter-intelligence agents, double-crossers, and suspicious domestic military police, these calculating phantoms manipulate history while adhering to their golden rule: do not kill, do not die.
