Synopsis

Kaoru is an earnest, hard-working office lady who leads an ordinary corporate lifestyle, enjoys social drinking with coworkers, and knows virtually nothing about subcultures. Her husband Hajime is a passionate, unemployed hardcore otaku who spends his days blogging about anime figures, browsing internet forums, and speaking in obscure gaming slang. Despite their completely divergent lifestyles and peculiar mutual confusion, the young married couple share a deeply affectionate, tender domestic bond. Through brief, heartwarming comedic vignettes, Kaoru and Hajime navigate quirky marital misunderstandings, domestic routines, pregnancy milestones, and quiet moments of heartfelt companionship.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Produced by studio Seven and directed by Shinpei Nagai, *Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken* adapts the four-panel web manga created by Coolkyousinnjya, renowned creator of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Premiering in autumn 2014 as a series of bite-sized three-minute short episodes, the anime was widely praised for its rapid-fire comedic timing, wholesome depiction of married life, and sweet romantic chemistry. Voice actors Yukari Tamura and Kenichi Suzumura delivered charming comedic performances as Kaoru and Hajime. The show's popularity quickly led to a second season in spring 2015.

“While not every scene hits its mark, I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying is a surprisingly sweet comedy series with a cute couple as the main focus.”
