Story

Synopsis

Bullied throughout middle school and mocked as a stony girl without personality, fifteen-year-old Uka Ishimori resolves to reinvent herself upon entering Hachimitsu High School. Her primary inspiration is Kai Miura, an aloof yet refreshingly kindhearted boy with bright lemon-colored hair whom she encountered during an accidental middle school meeting. When Kai steps in to protect Uka from teasing classmates, he offers gentle encouragement that helps her step beyond her shell. Supported by Kai and warmhearted new friends, Uka discovers genuine self-worth, academic confidence, and the sparkling sweetness of first high school romance.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Mayu Murata's smash-hit shojo manga serialized in Ribon magazine, *Honey Lemon Soda* was brought to television screens by animation studio J.C.Staff in early 2025. Directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori with series composition by Akiko Waba, the production captures the tender, effervescent tone and delicate pastel visual aesthetic of the best-selling source material. The series resonated deeply with romance fans for its patient depiction of adolescent trauma recovery, emphasizing personal growth, supportive friendships, and positive emotional healing alongside classic shojo romantic tropes.
