Synopsis

Haruka Nogizaka is the idol of Hakujo Academy, celebrated by peers for her peerless beauty, brilliant intelligence, and immense family aristocratic wealth. Yuuto Ayase is an unremarkable, ordinary classmate who accidentally bumps into Haruka in the school library, uncovering her deeply guarded secret: she is an obsessive fan of anime, manga, and otaku culture. Terrified that her conservative, aristocratic family will disown her if exposed, Haruka breaks down in tears. Yuuto swears an oath to keep her secret safe, forging a tender friendship as he guides Haruka through comic conventions, maid cafes, and adolescent romance.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Produced by studio Diomedéa and directed by Munenori Nawa, *Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu* adapts the romantic comedy light novel series written by Yusaku Igarashi and illustrated by Shaa. Airing in summer 2008 for 12 episodes, the television series gained significant popularity among anime fans for its charming depiction of otaku hobbyism, sweet romantic development, and lighthearted domestic comedy. Satoshi Ishino provided cute character designs that matched Shaa's delicate light novel illustrations, while voice actress Mamiko Noto delivered a memorable, sweet performance as Haruka. The anime successfully spawned a multi-season franchise and original video animation releases.

“Perhaps the second season will blow me away, but this first season is pretty mediocre. Add a star if you like cute girls.”
