Synopsis
Dormant deep within the Earth's mantle for millions of years, the ancient Dinosaur Empire reemerges to reclaim planetary dominion from humanity with colossal mechanical beasts. To combat this terrifying extinction threat, Professor Saotome develops the revolutionary Getter Robo, an advanced giant mecha powered by enigmatic cosmic Getter Rays. Saotome recruits three fiercely determined young men with contrasting skills: martial artist Ryoma Nagare, ruthless tactician Hayato Jin, and judo powerhouse Musashi Tomoe. Piloting three specialized Getmachine jets that combine in different configurations, the trio forms three distinct mecha modes to defend human civilization in ferocious, life-or-death aerial battles.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Tomoharu Katsumata, *Getter Robo* aired on Fuji TV from April 1974 to May 1975 across 51 episodes. Co-created by legendary manga artist Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa, the series made anime history as the very first production to introduce the concept of combining mecha, where separate piloted vehicles merge into a single giant robot. Featuring dynamic musical themes by Shunsuke Kikuchi and intense, visceral battle choreography, the anime revolutionized the super robot genre, spawning dozens of sequels, manga continuations, and video game appearances that endure to this day.
