Story

Synopsis

Keita Amano is an unassertive high school loner who enjoys casual gaming purely for fun. His peaceful routine is overturned when the school most idolized beauty, Karen Tendo, invites him to join the competitive gaming club. When Keita politely declines because he prefers playful enjoyment over stressful tournaments, an escalating cascade of bizarre social misunderstandings ensues. Entangling fellow casual gamers Chiaki Hoshinomori, Tasuku Uehara, and Aguri, the group forms complicated love triangles and false relationship theories, turning everyday adolescent interactions into an uproarious comedy of errors.

Based on the comedic light novel series created by Sekina Aoi and illustrated by Saboten, *Gamers!* was produced by animation studio Pine Jam and broadcast during the summer 2017 season. Directed by Manabu Okamoto with scripts by Hiroki Uchida, the series gained widespread popularity for its frantic narrative pacing, expressive character reactions, and brilliant deconstruction of romance anime miscommunication tropes. Rather than focusing strictly on gaming mechanics, the production delights in the hilarious chaos of teenage emotional insecurity.
