Synopsis

Introverted high schooler Takuya Seo conceals his passionate obsession with the magical girl anime series Miracle Girls, terrified that trendy peers will ridicule his otaku hobbies. His carefully guarded secret unravels when fashionable gyaru classmates Kei Ijichi and Amane Kotobuki accidentally discover his merchandise collection. Instead of mocking him, the two glamorous girls excitedly confess their own closeted passion for the franchise. Forming an unlikely after-school trio, the teens trade collectible cards, analyze magical girl plotlines, and navigate high school social hierarchies while developing genuine mutual affection.

Adapted from the romantic comedy manga written by Norishiro-chan and illustrated by Uonuma Yuu, *Gals Can't Be Kind to Otaku!?* was serialized in Monthly Comic Rex before receiving this animated television adaptation by TMS Entertainment. Directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki, the series celebrates subcultural passions and dispels social stereotypes through energetic comedic banter, expressive visual styling, and heartfelt adolescent bonding. The production highlights the joyful camaraderie of shared fandom across disparate classroom social cliques, creating an uplifting and funny high school dynamic.

“Between leaning on unoriginal tropes and a largely unlikable protagonist, the series doesn’t have a lot to recommend itself. It’s not terrible, but there are many better options to watch out there. Gals Can’t Be Kind To Otaku?”
