A beautiful story set in a fascinating time, and accentuated by the studio's trademark visuals - this is another must-have Ghibli movie.

Two students fight to save a clubhouse.
Synopsis
In 1963 Yokohama, Umi Matsuzaki raises signal flags each morning for a father lost at sea and helps run her family's boarding house. Her involvement with Shun Kazama and a campaign to save the school's dilapidated clubhouse from demolition ahead of the Tokyo Olympics develops into something more complicated when their family histories turn out to intersect uncomfortably. The film pairs a preservation campaign with a romance whose central obstacle arrives from an entirely unexpected direction. Every revelation about their families complicates something they had already decided.

A lovely and understated slice-of-life drama that captures the quiet optimism of postwar youth with warm nostalgic grace.
