Synopsis

Created through ancient esoteric magic to act as an exact physical body double for popular high school student Aoi, artificial replica Ayano attends classes whenever her original wishes to skip dull obligations. Designed solely to mimic behavioral patterns without developing personal identity, Ayano begins experiencing genuine emotional awareness, philosophical doubt, and romantic longing for a quiet classmate named Souta. Caught between her synthetic obligation to mirror Aoi social persona and her burgeoning personal desires, Ayano struggles to discover whether an imitation human soul deserves true love.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Originating as an introspective romance light novel series created by Hikaru Shima and illustrated by Rano, *Even a Replica Can Fall in Love* won the Silver Prize at the Dengeki Novel Prize before receiving this television adaptation by studio Voil. Directed by Tomohiro Kawamura, the series explores delicate adolescent themes regarding identity, emotional authenticity, and existential loneliness. The production pairs sensitive character animation with soft lighting and atmospheric piano compositions to capture the fragile melancholic mood of the story.
