Synopsis

A digital creature appears on the internet and begins consuming data, growing rapidly as it absorbs everything it encounters and eventually redirecting a missile toward Japan. The DigiDestined, scattered across the country and mostly unable to reach each other, coordinate through email and phone calls while Taichi and Koushiro fight from a single computer. The film runs under an hour and uses network culture, dial-up limitations, and a genuinely global stake to build sustained tension throughout. Every minute counts because the threat grows faster than anyone can coordinate against.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Mamoru Hosoda before his breakthrough with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Our War Game is widely regarded as the finest Digimon film and as an early demonstration of the director's fascination with digital spaces and collective action. Its structure and imagery were reused substantially in his later film Summer Wars. The film's depiction of early internet culture has aged into a genuine period piece while its tension remains entirely intact for viewers today. Its structure and imagery were later reused substantially in the same director's Summer Wars.
