Story

Synopsis

Taking a much-needed break from their chaotic retail jobs at Gamers hobby shop in Akihabara, feline alien princess Dejiko and companions Puchiko and Gema charter a spacecraft home to Planet Di Gi Charat. Inadvertently dragging rival bunny-eared idol Rabi-en-Rose along for the ride, the travelers arrive in their whimsical homeworld only to be targeted by mischievous childhood rival Piyoko and the Black Gema-Gema Gang. Through chaotic laser-eye beams, explosive slapstick duels, and absurd magical nonsense, Dejiko defends her royal spaceship and celebrates friendship across the cosmos.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Premiering in December 2001 alongside *Sakura Taisen: Katsudou Shashin* and *Slayers Premium*, this energetic twenty-one minute theatrical short was directed by Hiroaki Sakurai and animated by Madhouse. Originating as promotional mascots for retail store chain Broccoli, the *Di Gi Charat* characters achieved phenomenal otaku popularity in the early 2000s. Known for rapid-fire surreal humor, fourth-wall breaking jokes, and expressive chibi animation supervised by character designer Koge-Donbo, the film remains a quintessential comedic time capsule.
