Keiichiro Nagumo was once revered as a legendary high school detective prodigy, solving impossible criminal cases with brilliant deduction. Now thirty-five years old, he is a broke, chain-smoking private eye suffering from chronic back pain, living off instant noodles and mundane pet-finding gigs. His dreary, quiet life is turned completely upside down when Mashiro, an eccentric and cheerfully hyperactive high school girl, bursts into his rundown office demanding to become his apprentice. Dragged into ridiculous high school drama, bizarre neighborhood conspiracies, and awkward generational misunderstandings, Nagumo struggles to maintain his sanity while rediscovering his dormant detective spark.
Background (may contain spoilers)
Animated by studio Nomad and directed by Rion Kujo, *Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara* adapts the slapstick comedy manga written and illustrated by Masakuni Igarashi, serialized in Dengeki Maoh. Scheduled as a prominent 2025 comedy television adaptation, the production subverts traditional hardboiled detective tropes through biting generational satire and energetic visual physical comedy. Character designer and animation staff focus on expressive character reactions, contrasting Nagumo's weary, haggard noir countenance against Mashiro's vibrant, chaotic shojo energy. The show offers a witty, lighthearted parody of modern investigative anime.
