Story

Synopsis

A bomber with an architectural obsession begins planting devices across Tokyo, communicating through calls that Conan quickly recognizes as connected to a specific designer's work. The case escalates until Ran is trapped with a device requiring a decision Conan cannot make for her, forcing the closest thing to a confession the franchise had attempted at that point. The film establishes the template every subsequent Conan movie would follow, pairing a fair-play mystery with an escalating physical threat. Every device planted narrows the time available before someone Conan knows dies.

The first Detective Conan film, based on Gosho Aoyama's manga, The Time Bombed Skyscraper launched what would become one of the longest-running and most commercially dependable annual film franchises in Japanese cinema. It is frequently ranked among fans as one of the strongest entries, praised for a tightly constructed central mystery and for a climax that gives Ran genuine agency. Its structure defined the formula that subsequent entries would refine and eventually expand into large-scale action. Its structure became the template that every subsequent entry would build on.
