True Cross Academy is gripped by festive excitement as students and exorcists prepare for a grand festival held once every eleven years. To prevent demonic incursions, exorcists reinforce the protective barrier, while Rin Okumura and his twin brother Yukio are assigned to exorcise the Phantom Train, a demonic locomotive rampaging through the city. During the chaotic battle, Rin discovers Usamaro, a small, child-like demon resembling a rabbit. Taking pity on the abandoned demon, Rin brings Usamaro back to the boys' dormitory to care for him, discovering that Usamaro possesses the mystical ability to devour painful human memories.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
While Usamaro initially brings joy by erasing people's stress, his unchecked memory consumption begins deleting residents' important personal identities and basic responsibilities, paralyzing the city in dangerous apathy. A catastrophic demonic miasma breaks through the weakened barrier, threatening to destroy True Cross Academy. Rin confronts Usamaro, helping the little demon understand that painful memories are essential to human growth and genuine love. Moved by Rin's brotherly affection, Usamaro sacrifices his physical form to consume the toxic miasma, saving the academy as Rin tearfully preserves his memory under the fireworks.
