Story

Synopsis

Global conglomerate Daedalus Group faces coordinated terrorist bombings executed by a mysterious environmental activist network dubbed the Ghost of Icarus. While performing miraculous emergency surgeries on blast victims, unlicensed surgical prodigy Black Jack encounters Doctor Kiriko, a cynical former military physician who advocates euthanasia for terminally suffering patients. When both doctors are hired by the extremist network, Black Jack uncovers a terrifying conspiracy: an incurable artificial bioweapon engineered to wipe out humanity. Risking his life in surgical theaters, Black Jack must defeat biological apocalypse while proving every human life is worth saving.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Makoto Tezuka, son of manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka, this gripping 2005 theatrical feature was produced by Tezuka Productions. Adapting central philosophical themes from the classic medical manga, the storyline explores the existential clash between Black Jack relentless reverence for preserving life and Doctor Kiriko pragmatic mercy killing. Featuring dynamic action set-pieces, detailed surgical procedural cuts, and an emotional orchestral score, the film achieved critical acclaim for honoring Osamu Tezuka enduring humanist legacy.
