Story

Synopsis

Forty-seven-year-old Tetsuya Takeda is a seasoned, highly respected general manager leading a major corporate sales division in Tokyo. Overnight, a bizarre metaphysical phenomenon strikes, shrinking his body into an innocent eight-month-old infant while leaving his sharp executive intellect completely intact. Refusing to abandon his managerial responsibilities, Takeda continues running high-stakes board meetings, negotiating commercial contracts, and evaluating quarterly performance from a high chair. His dedicated subordinate staff must navigate professional corporate etiquette while changing their boss's diapers, warming baby bottles, and soothing sudden unexpected mid-meeting infant crying fits.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Manabu Yashiro's acclaimed comedy manga serialized in Kodansha's *Morning* magazine, *Akachan Honbuchou* was produced by animation studio Tomovies and broadcast on NHK General TV in March 2021. Directed by Hiroshi Chida with veteran actor Kenjiro Tsuda providing the authoritative internal monologue of the infant executive, the eight-episode short series gained viral attention in Japan. The anime received critical praise for its sharp workplace satire, touching corporate camaraderie, and surreal juxtaposition of executive leadership and toddler physiology.
