Story
Synopsis
In a post-apocalyptic future, climate change submerges much of the globe, and humanity is driven from the seas by the Fleet of Fog, a mysterious armada of sentient naval warships equipped with devastating supergravitational weapons. Gunzo Chihaya and his renegade crew commandeer the I-401, a Fog submarine whose female mental model, Iona, chooses to defect and serve humankind. Navigating hostile blockades, Gunzo seeks to deliver a revolutionary vibration torpedo to the United States to turn the tide. Along the way, the crew encounters Fog mental models beginning to develop complex human emotions.

The theatrical cut condenses the television series while introducing twenty minutes of new footage establishing the Student Council of the Fog, led by super-dreadnought Hiei. Gunzo and Iona face off against Fog flagship Kongou, whose grief over losing her partner causes her to succumb to corrupted rage. Rather than destroying Kongou, Iona embraces her in the deep sea, showing her that emotional connection brings genuine fulfillment rather than weakness. With Kongou pacified, Gunzo successfully delivers the torpedo prototype, preparing his allied fleet for a decisive confrontation against the Fog Supreme Flagship Yamato.
