Story

Synopsis

At prestigious Seidou High School, one hundred passionate athletes dedicate their youth to baseball, fiercely competing to earn the coveted ace jersey. While the main stadium lights shine on competitive tournament games, this special OVA trilogy explores the personal hardships that forged the team's core roster. Hardworking second baseman Ryousuke Kominato struggles against physical limitations while inspiring his younger brother Haruichi, while dynamic shortstop Youichi Kuramochi reflects on his delinquent past and redemption on the diamond. Together with spirited pitcher Eijun Sawamura, the teammates strengthen the unshakeable camaraderie essential to conquering national tournaments.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Co-produced by renowned animation studios Madhouse and Production I.G, *Diamond no Ace OVA* was released between 2014 and 2015 as a three-episode original animation DVD series bundled with limited editions of Yuji Terajima's manga volumes 44, 45, and 46. Directed by Mitsuyuki Masuhara, these side stories received praise from sports anime fans for providing poignant character backstories and deeper emotional resonance that complemented the main television broadcast. The OVAs were widely commended for their authentic baseball choreography, emotional maturity, and meticulous visual fidelity.
