Story
Synopsis
This compilation film covers the early stretch of Karasuno's revival, from Hinata and Kageyama's antagonistic first meeting through the team's initial matches as a genuine competitive unit. The pairing that shouldn't work becomes the team's most dangerous weapon almost by accident, and the supporting players who have been carrying the club through its decline finally get opponents worth their effort. Condensed for theatrical presentation, it delivers the formative arc that established what this team could become. Every early match establishes the tactical vocabulary the rest of the series builds on, and the partnership at the center forms almost entirely by accident.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
The first entry in the Haikyuu compilation film series from Production I.G, adapted from Haruichi Furudate's manga, this recut served Japanese audiences already following the television broadcast. Haikyuu built its reputation on physically expressive match animation and on giving rival teams as much characterization as the protagonists, which is unusual in the genre. The franchise remains one of the most acclaimed sports anime ever produced, and it is frequently recommended even to viewers who typically avoid sports stories entirely. Its role as the franchise's origin story makes it the natural place for newcomers to begin.
