Infinite Stratos Watch Order: Season 1, 2 and Every OVA, in order
“Both Infinite Stratos seasons and every OVA in release order, with the skippable extras flagged.”
Six titles, roughly 28 episodes, and one boy who ends up as the only male pilot at a school full of mecha-suit girls. That's the whole Infinite Stratos library. (Ichika Orimura did not apply for this.)
Good news: the order is easy. There are two TV seasons, Infinite Stratos in 2011 and Infinite Stratos 2 in 2013, and the OVAs sit around them. Release order is the order below.
So which of the four extras do you need? Answer: none of them for the main story. The Encore OVA from 2011 is a light extra, World Purge-hen adapts the World Purge arc of the light novels, and the Infinite Wedding special is a short bonus. The odd one is Hitonatsu no Omoide, an extended cut of Season 2's first episode, so you'd be watching the same episode twice. Think of it like a director's cut: nice if you're a fan, redundant if you aren't.
At the end: Season 1, then Season 2, and you've seen the story. Add the OVAs if you want more. That's 6 steps and only 2 of them are core. Now go suit up.
Season 1 (2011)
Start here. Ichika Orimura becomes the only male IS pilot and enrolls at the academy. 12 episodes.
A 26-minute OVA from December 2011. A light extra after Season 1.
Season 2 and extras (2013-2016)
A 39-minute extended version of Season 2's first episode. Skip it if you've seen that episode.
This OVA shares its title with Season 2's first episode and is an extended version of it, so you'd be watching the same story twice. Watch it only if you want the longer cut.
A 44-minute OVA from 2014 adapting the World Purge arc.
This OVA came out about a year after Season 2 aired and isn't part of the TV run. Watch it after the season if you want that arc.
A 24-minute bonus special from 2016. Pure extra.
