Synopsis

During a peaceful summer holiday picnic near Mount Fuji, junior high genius Kiyo Takamine and his lightning-wielding demon partner Zatch Bell encounter a troubled girl named Kotoha holding an unusual white spellbook. Her book delivers a message claiming Zatch's biological mother is trapped inside a nearby cave. Rushing to investigate, Kiyo and Zatch are lured into an alternate dimension where an exiled demon named Wiseman has stolen the forbidden 101st spellbook, framing Zatch for the crime. Attacked by the dimensional Black Knight and facing permanent exile, Kiyo and Zatch must expose Wiseman's deception before the portal closes forever.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Tetsuo Imazawa and produced by Toei Animation, *Konjiki no Gash Bell!!: 101-banme no Mamono* premiered in Japanese theaters in August 2004. Based on Makoto Raiku's smash-hit supernatural battle manga serialized in *Weekly Shonen Sunday*, the feature marked the first theatrical cinematic adventure for the franchise. The movie was warmly received by fans for expanding upon demon world lore, featuring high-energy spell battles, and highlighting the tender emotional bond between Zatch and Kiyo. Its domestic commercial success spurred a second theatrical film the following year.
