Story

Synopsis

In the shadow of the approaching millennium, brooding teenager Kamui Shiro returns to Tokyo to fulfill a prophecy bestowed by his dying mother. Possessing immense psychic power, Kamui holds the dual destiny of either destroying corrupt humanity to rejuvenate the Earth or defending human civilization from extinction. Forced to choose between the Seven Seals who defend humanity and the Seven Harbingers who demand apocalypse, Kamui chooses to protect his childhood friends Fuma and Kotori. However, his choice triggers a horrifying tragedy, transforming Fuma into his prophesied apocalyptic twin.

Broadcasting twenty-four episodes on WOWOW from October 2001 to March 2002, *X* was produced by studio Madhouse and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. Adapting the dark fantasy manga by celebrated manga collective CLAMP, the television anime was lauded for its lavish gothic art direction, apocalyptic stakes, and spectacular psychic battle choreography. Composed by Naoki Sato with haunting orchestral-choral arrangements, the series provided an expansive, emotionally devastating conclusion to CLAMP iconic urban fantasy epic.
