Synopsis

In 1580, during the blood-soaked Sengoku civil warfare period, the demonic armies of warlord Oda Nobunaga ravage central Japan, empowered by subterranean infernal entities. Surviving the merciless slaughter of her Kasumi ninja clan, agile kunoichi Ayame escapes into the shadows bearing a sacred ancestral short sword. Joining forces with rogue shinobi Sakon, wielder of a legendary spirit sword, and stoic monk Ryoma, master of a mystical spear, the trio unites under ancient prophecy. Combining their three enchanted blades, the shadow warriors infiltrate Nobunaga fortress to extinguish demonic usurpers before darkness blankets the realm.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Toshifumi Minami and animated by J.C.Staff in 1989, this feature film compiles and remasters the acclaimed three-part dark fantasy OVA series *Sengoku Kitan Youtouden*. Known for its gritty ninja action, supernatural body horror, and occult historical reinterpretation of Nobunaga Oda warlord ambitions, the production showcases crisp late-eighties cel animation. Character designs by veteran artist Masayuki Sakanoi and dynamic ninja weapon choreography cemented the title as a beloved cult favorite among retro martial arts anime fans.
