Synopsis
Following the catastrophic flooding of Jinshan Temple, the white snake demon Blanca is overpowered by monk Fahai and sealed beneath the Leifeng Pagoda. Her loyal green snake sister, Verta, is cast into Asuraville, a violent, post-apocalyptic purgatory city outside the cycle of reincarnation where lost souls burdened with lingering obsessions are trapped. Stripped of her magical cultivation powers, Verta must navigate a brutal urban wasteland divided between human gangs, ox-headed demons, and winged specters, teaming up with an amnesiac masked youth while searching for a way to break out and rescue Blanca.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Verta discovers that to escape Asuraville, she must let go of her supreme obsession or cross the perilous Bridge of Rebirth through the windstorm abyss. The masked youth protects Verta from Fahai's astral projection, revealing that he is in fact the reincarnation of Blanca herself, whose obsessive love for Verta was so powerful that her soul crossed genders and lifetimes into purgatory. The youth sacrifices himself to propel Verta across the bridge. Escaping back to the mortal world in modern-day Hangzhou, Verta visits a museum and finds Blanca's hairpiece, tearfully reuniting with Blanca's modern reincarnated soul.
