Story

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old high school student Sayako Amanokawa dreams of pursuing investigative journalism, inspired by a renowned newspaper reporter she idolizes. When the disgraced journalist tragically commits suicide following a fabricated political scandal, Sayako is engulfed in sorrow. The sudden shock awakens her latent psychic vision, allowing her to see departed spirits and dark spiritual entities corrupting the living. Embarking on a dangerous journalistic inquiry to expose the corrupt cabal manipulating public minds, Sayako encounters Taihei Sorano, a charismatic spiritual leader believed to be the modern rebirth of Buddha, fighting to dispel darkness.

Group TAC produced this feature-length supernatural anime movie, which opened in Japanese theaters in October 2009. The production was overseen by Ryuho Okawa, founder of the controversial Happy Science movement, whose philosophical texts provided the story framework. Directed by Takaaki Ishiyama and scored by composer Yuichi Mizusawa, the film incorporated traditional 2D animation with supernatural special effects. Despite receiving mixed reception regarding its didactic religious rhetoric, the movie achieved significant commercial visibility across Japan due to nationwide ticket campaigns orchestrated by the religious organization.
