Story

Synopsis

This prequel returns to the earliest years of Glory's professional scene, following a young Ye Xiu as he and his teammate Su Muqiu build the grassroots team that would become Excellent Era. The professional alliance barely exists yet, the game's competitive conventions have not been established, and everything the main series treats as settled history is still being invented by players making it up as they go. The film shows how a legend was assembled out of improvisation, ambition, and a partnership that would not last.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Based on Hu Dielan's enormously popular Chinese web novel, The King's Avatar is one of the most successful esports properties in Chinese media, spanning animation, live action, and games. This prequel film released in August 2019 and covers the founding era that the main donghua series references but never depicts directly. The franchise's popularity reflects the genuine cultural weight of competitive gaming in China, and its detailed treatment of professional team dynamics gave it credibility with actual esports audiences. Its focus on the sport's founding era gives the franchise genuine historical texture.
