Story

Synopsis

In modern Japan, Minoru Kageno trains maniacally not to be a hero or a villain, but to become an eminence in shadow, an elusive mastermind pulling puppet strings behind the scenes. After dying in a bizarre training accident, he is reincarnated into a magical world as noble scion Cid Kagenou. Fully indulging his dramatic fantasies, Cid rescues an elf girl from a monstrous curse and concocts an elaborate fiction about a wicked conspiracy called the Cult of Diablos. Calling his secret organization Shadow Garden, Cid assigns her to gather recruits while treating their battles as harmless roleplay. Hilariously oblivious to the truth, Cid has no idea that the Cult of Diablos is a terrifying, genuine threat.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) adapts the popular isekai dark comedy light novel series written by Daisuke Aizawa with illustrations by Touzai. Produced by animation studio Nexus and directed by Kazuya Nakanishi, the 20-episode television series aired from October 2022 to February 2023. Acclaimed for its deadpan comedic timing, stylish chuunibyou action choreography, and Seiichiro Yamashita's unforgettable vocal performance as Cid, the series became a massive international hit, prompting immediate sequel productions.
