Synopsis

In Tokyo during the culturally shifting Taisho era in 1925, fourteen-year-old restaurant daughter Koume Suzukawa attends the prestigious Toho Star Girls Academy. When her wealthy, progressive classmate Akiko Ogasawara is infuriated by a male acquaintance arrogant claim that women belong only in the kitchen, Akiko resolves to prove female equality on the athletic field. Gathering an unlikely group of nine classmates who have never held a bat or glove, the girls form an amateur baseball team. Braving social scorn, restrictive kimonos, and grueling physical drills, the pioneers fight for their independence.

Airing twelve episodes from July to September 2009 on TBS, *Taisho Baseball Girls* was produced by studio J.C.Staff and directed by Takashi Ikehata. Adapting the historical sports light novel series written by Atsuko Kagurazaka, the anime was lauded for its authentic historical period detail, rich Taisho-era feminist subtext, and earnest sports drama. Accompanied by a charming period-inspired musical score composed by Masato Kouda, the production provided viewers with an inspiring and heartwarming historical sports journey.
