Synopsis

Moriko Morioka is a thirty-year-old corporate worker who abruptly quits her grueling white-collar job after burning out from corporate stress. Declaring herself an elite modern hermit, she immerses herself in the multiplayer fantasy online role-playing game Fruits de Mer. Creating an attractive male avatar named Hayashi, Moriko meets a kind, experienced healer named Lily, forming a close digital friendship that revitalizes her confidence. Meanwhile, in the real world, Moriko has an awkward encounter with a polite blonde corporate employee named Yuuta Sakurai. Unbeknownst to both of them, Yuuta is actually the gentle player behind Lily.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Signal.MD animated this ten-episode romantic comedy television series, which aired during the fall 2017 season. Directed by Kazuyoshi Yaginuma and written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, the show adapted the popular Comico web manga series created by Rin Kokuyo. The anime distinguished itself from typical isekai and video game titles by focusing realistically on adult burnout, social anxiety, and modern online interpersonal connections. Fans and critics praised the production for its endearing depiction of gaming culture, its refreshing thirty-something adult protagonists, and its heartfelt romantic progression across both virtual and real-world spaces.
