Synopsis

The everyday slacker humor of downtown Tokyo collides with ninja mysticism in this quirky animated crossover short. Cardboard cutout woodland creatures Rope the rabbit and Akira the chipmunk find their daily stroll interrupted by the high-spirited genin of the Hidden Leaf Village. As Boruto Uzumaki attempts to explain the complex fundamentals of ninjutsu and shinobi discipline, the unimpressed animal duo responds with deadpan observations, casual modern slang, and typical teenage indifference. Blending photo-realistic urban backdrops with charming flash-style character movement, the collaborative skit delivers a delightfully surreal clash of casual slice-of-life comedy and energetic shonen adventure.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Produced as a promotional crossover commercial in spring 2017, *Paper Rabbit Rope x Boruto: Naruto Next Generations* brought together Yuji Uchiyama's famous short anime *Kamiusagi Rope* and Studio Pierrot's freshly launched *Boruto* television series. Broadcast across Japanese theaters and morning variety programming on Fuji TV, the short delighted audiences with its signature dry, conversational improvisations. By placing Boruto and his ninja peers into the mundane, offbeat world of Rope and Akira, the campaign served as an inventive promotional vehicle celebrating the ninja franchise's new era.
