Story

Synopsis

Giovanni is an earnest anthropomorphic cat boy who works long hours at a printing press to support his ailing mother while facing cruel isolation from his classmates. During the festive evening of the Centaur Festival, Giovanni retreats to a solitary grassy hill overlooking the town. Suddenly, a magnificent steam locomotive arrives out of the night sky, sweeping him aboard alongside his gentle, wealthy friend Campanella. As the cosmic train glides across luminous nebulae along the Milky Way, the boys encounter peculiar passengers traveling toward destinations that transcend ordinary earthly reality.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
The passengers boarding the celestial train are souls traveling to the afterlife, including a tutor and children who perished in an ocean shipwreck. When the train reaches the majestic Southern Cross station, Campanella quietly departs, choosing to ascend into eternal paradise. Giovanni awakens alone on the quiet grassy hillside and rushes into town, only to discover a crowd gathered at the riverbank. Campanella had leaped into the rushing waters earlier that evening to save their drowning classmate Zanelli, heroically giving his own life in the rescue.
