⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Shou Futamata's colorful web manga serialized on the Comico platform, *Nanbaka* was produced by animation studio Satelight and aired for thirteen episodes in autumn 2016. Directed by Shinji Takamatsu with series composition by Mitsutaka Hirota, the television anime is immediately recognizable for its blinding sparkle effects, hyper-saturated neon color palette, and energetic slapstick pacing. The production masterfully balances absurd prison parody and fourth-wall breaking banter with surprisingly serious, dramatic shonen martial arts combat as Jyugo past comes to light.
