Story

Synopsis

In the year 2118, ninety-nine percent of humanity was wiped out in days following an ambush by an alien conqueror race known as the Dracters. The surviving human remnants take refuge inside Ixia, an immense underground shelter where citizens live under brainwashed memories believing they are in peaceful mid-twentieth-century Japan. Chosen for their high psychological psychopathy indexes that enable them to pilot colossal mecha called Rogues, delinquent youth Yamato Ichidai and his hotheaded peers discover the truth. Boarding the megaton-class war machine Musashi, Yamato leads desperate counter-strikes to reclaim Earth's scorched surface.

Created by Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino as an ambitious multimedia cross-media project spanning anime, video games, and toy lines, *Megaton Musashi* was animated by studio OLM. Directed by Shigeharu Takahashi with mechanical designs by Takao Uno, the thirteen-episode first season broadcast from October to December 2021 on Tokyo MX and BS Fuji. The production earned praise among classic super robot fans for its heavyweight mecha combat, operatic emotional drama, and classic 1970s robot anime homage.
