Koji Kabuto once piloted the super robot Mazinger Z and, with his friends at the Photon Power Laboratory, stopped Dr. Hell's Underground Empire. Ten years later he is no longer a pilot but a scientist, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He finds a gigantic structure buried beneath Mt. Fuji, along with a mysterious sign of life. What it sets off is a threat bigger than anything before, and Koji has to decide whether the future needs a god or a demon.

Mazinger Z: Infinity is an original story made by Toei Animation for the 45th anniversary of the Mazinger Z manga and TV anime, and for Go Nagai's 50th year as a manga artist. Junji Shimizu, who has directed One Piece and Pretty Cure projects, directed it from a script by Takahiro Ozawa. Toshiyuki Watanabe composed the music, as his father Michiaki Watanabe did for the original series. Showtaro Morikubo voices Koji, Natsuki Hanae voices his brother Shiro, Sumire Uesaka voices Lisa, and Great Mazinger appears too. Ichiro Mizuki sings the film's version of the original theme, and Koji Kikkawa sings the ending theme, The Last Letter. The world premiere was at the Rome Film Festival in October 2017 with Nagai in attendance, and the film opened in Japan in January 2018. Viz Media licensed it for North America.
