The magical kingdom of Lucis has maintained its independence from the technologically dominant Niflheim Empire thanks to the sacred Crystal and the protective Barrier erected by King Regis. Defending the realm's borders is the Kingsglaive, an elite force of immigrant soldiers granted the power of royal magic. When Niflheim proposes a peace treaty contingent upon King Regis ceding outer territories and Prince Noctis marrying Lady Lunafreya of Tenebrae, veteran glaive Nyx Ulric uncovers an elaborate military ambush designed to sack the royal capital of Insomnia from within.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Niflheim's forces unleash colossal daemons and seize the Crystal while General Glauca assassinates King Regis. Before dying, Regis entrusts the sacred Ring of the Lucii to Nyx. Nyx puts on the ring and negotiates with the ancient spirits of past Lucian kings, sacrificing his own life in exchange for the power to summon the colossal stone Old Wall statues. Nyx engages Glauca in a brutal duel, killing the traitorous general just as dawn breaks, before his own body incinerates to ash as payment. His heroic sacrifice secures Princess Lunafreya's escape with the ring, preserving humanity's sole hope for Prince Noctis to reclaim his fallen throne.
Some impressive CG doesn't come close to making up for the sterile, dull story or terrible voice acting performances that make Kingsglaive utterly missable.
